EARLY PICTURES of the Baker Cemetery project...Past Cdr. Lee Hart worked many hours every week at General Laurence Simmons Baker's grave site in Cedar Hill Cemetery.    Lee is grateful to the many people who supported this project with their labor and cash donations.  


Confederate General Laurence Simmons Baker (1830 - 1907) was honored at Cedar Hill Cemetery on May 29, 2004 by the Tom Smith Camp, the Suffolk Chapter of the UDC, many descendants of the Baker family, reenactors, friends & visitors, and many dignitaries.  The General's burial lot was restored with a new brick walk-way, new brick steps including handrail and inscribed capstone, and an 8 ft. high monument.  This dedication ceremony marked the end of a 2 year project spearheaded by Past Cdr. Lee Hart of the Tom Smith Camp.
