Confederate
General Laurence Simmons Baker (1830 - 1907) was honored at
Cedar Hill Cemetery on May 29, 2004 by the Tom Smith Camp, the Suffolk
Chapter of the UDC, many descendants of the Baker family, reenactors,
friends & visitors, and many dignitaries. The General's burial
lot was restored with a new brick walk-way, new brick steps including
handrail and inscribed capstone, and an 8 ft. high monument. This
dedication ceremony marked the end of a 2 year project spearheaded by
Past Cdr. Lee Hart of the Tom Smith Camp.
